Market Fingerprint

Introduction

The Overnight Market Fingerprint summarizes pre-market pricing across equities, volatility, yields, the U.S. dollar, and oil before the U.S. cash session begins.

Today's Fingerprint Latest

Nasdaq −1.69% led the overnight weakness, while the S&P 500 fell only −0.18%; yields rose and the U.S. dollar remained stable.

Latest Tracker data will load when JavaScript is available.

Key Observation

Technology-led valuation repricing, not broad market panic.

Market Notes

The relatively stable S&P 500 alongside the sharp Nasdaq decline pointed to a technology-specific correction rather than broad risk aversion.

Higher Treasury yields suggested liquidity remained healthy, while the stable dollar and modest oil decline indicated an otherwise steady macro backdrop.

Previous Fingerprints

Summary: Overnight markets reflected a broadly constructive tone. The S&P 500 rose 0.37%, Nasdaq-100 edged up 0.05%, while VIX fell 1.82% and macro indicators remained largely unchanged.

Key observation: Stable risk-on sentiment with improving investor confidence.

The 1.82% decline in VIX was the strongest overnight move, suggesting improving market sentiment, while both the S&P 500 (+0.37%) and Nasdaq-100 (+0.05%) remained broadly stable.

Treasury yields (+0.50%), the U.S. dollar (0.00%), and crude oil (+0.50%) showed little macro disruption, pointing to a calm risk-on opening.

Reading the Fingerprint

This fingerprint combines three complementary views of overnight market conditions.

Radar Chart

The radar chart shows the six tracked indicators together. The dashed circle marks no overnight change; positions beyond or within it show the size and direction of each direction-adjusted move. Labels show the raw opening-gap percentage.

Heatmap

The heatmap presents the same overnight changes as individual tiles. Green indicates a positive direction-adjusted move and red indicates a negative one. VIX and the U.S. dollar are reversed so the chart reads in a consistent market-direction context.

Overnight Indicators

The fingerprint follows the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, VIX, 10-year Treasury yield, U.S. dollar index, and WTI oil. Reading them together helps distinguish technology-specific weakness from broader changes in risk, liquidity, and macro conditions.

Methodology

The fingerprint is generated automatically by the open-source Daily Market Tracker project.

Each U.S. trading day, the workflow:

  1. Downloads Yahoo Finance daily open and close data for the six indicators.
  2. Calculates each indicator's opening gap from the previous close.
  3. Validates and stores the daily record.
  4. Generates the fingerprint automatically.
